Missouri’s U.S. Senators react to McConnell stepping down as GOP leader

Missouri’s U.S. Senators are reacting to Senator Mitch McConnell stepping down as their chamber’s Republican leader in November. 

Missouri U.S. Senator Josh Hawley says McConnell’s announcement is good news. Hawley, a fellow Republican, did not back McConnell’s leadership and questions why McConnell is waiting until November to step down. He wants new leadership now. 

Meanwhile, U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt thanks McConnell for decades of service in leadership. 

Schmitt says Republicans must now focus on electing strong leadership to usher in a new era of success and prosperity.
