Proposal would require disclosure labels on certain ‘misbranded’ foods
The sale of misbranded food is illegal in Missouri, and a pre-filed bill would expand the definition of “misbranded.”
If passed, that definition would include bioengineered substances, natural flavoring, and edible coatings on fruits or vegetables.
It would also include products containing lab-grown or insect-based meat or meat alternatives unless there is a label indicating as much, or meat food products from an animal vaccinated with an mRNA-based vaccine.
St. Charles County Republican Senator Nick Schroer’s bill would require disclosure labeling on each of those products.
The legislative session begins on Wednesday, January 3.
