Jackson County lawmakers to discuss raising sales tax to keep Royals and Chiefs in Kansas City

The Jackson County legislature is scheduled to hear a proposed ordinance at its meeting on Monday.

It would raise Jackson County’s sales tax to 3/8ths of one percent for a 40-year period, with the additional revenue going towards stadium improvements.

The proposal would also require voter approval in April.

The Royals are considering two sites for building a new ballpark, one of them in downtown KC and the other across the river in Clay County.

Officials in Kansas have made overtures to the Chiefs to leave Arrowhead to build a new stadium on their side of the state line.
