Missouri’s Hunt Institute Legislative Retreat on Education
Jefferson City, Mo. — Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft welcomed Missouri lawmakers and educators to the annual Hunt Institute Legislative Retreat on Education held in Jefferson City. The two-day retreat covered several topics such as early childhood education, school choice, school governance and teacher recruitment and retention.
The Hunt Institute works to engage elected officials with education professionals and advisors in order to discuss educational opportunities and advance reform.
Ashcroft, a Hunt-Kean fellow, helped bring the retreat to Missouri in 2019 and the program continues to expand. Several members of the Missouri legislature attended the retreat to hear from education experts across Missouri and around the country.
“This is a bi-partisan effort to stress the importance of education as a legislative priority,” Ashcroft said. “I desire educational freedom for every Missouri parent. They should be afforded the same choices regarding their children’s education that I have for mine. All students should have the opportunity for a challenging education; to grow and thrive.”
