Missouri National Guard soldier awarded for rescuing a family from drowning
A Missouri National Guard soldier has been awarded a medal for rescuing a family.
Sergeant First Class Aaron Lemon has been awarded for rescuing a mother and two toddlers from drowning while attempting to cross the Rio Grande River in Texas.
As a non-commissioned officer supporting the Department of Homeland Security last year, Lemon immediately responded to a call to help the troubled family.
After trying from three different locations, Lemon was able to secure a rope and lifebuoy around his waist, anchor the other end to two soldiers on a bank, and successfully bring the family back to shore.
He and the family were treated for hypothermia and exhaustion.
