MSSU to host Business Gateway competition for high school students
JOPLIN, MO. (11-8-2023) – Missouri Southern State University’s Plaster School of Business will host the Business Gateway – a business competition and workshop event for area high school students – on Thursday, November 9th.
Approximately 600 students from more than 20 schools will participate in the event, said Dr. Lucas Dille, assistant professor of accounting and coordinator of the Business Gateway. This is the second year for the Business Gateway event at Southern.
There will be a variety of competitive events, presentations, and workshops, including “Build a Bridge” and “Build a Tower” workshops presented by Dr. Mateus Pizarro assistant professor of engineering. A presentation by Dr. Ildo Kim from the communications department will focus on how sci-fi and fantasy television series and movies are created. Tours of campus will be available by MSSU’s admissions team.
“We’re excited to be able to hold this event again this year,” Dille said. “Our goal is to bring developmental and recruitment aspects to it as well as the competition. We want to introduce students to what the Plaster School of Business has to offer and give them a taste of what Missouri Southern is about.”
Events and workshops will run from 9 a.m. to noon in Plaster Hall, followed by an awards ceremony at 1:15 p.m. in Taylor Performing Arts Center. The competition will include individual and team-based events in categories such as social media, website design, accounting, finance, data analytics, tourism, business communication, and more.
