Native American Cultural Celebration Nov. 10-11 in Miami
The non-profit group, REIGN (“Renewing and Empowering, Indigenous Narratives”), is proud to announce: The Native American Cultural Celebration – Conference at the Coleman Theater in Miami, Okla. – Nov. 10-11.
The Indigenous Conference will also celebrate traditional and contemporary understanding of Native history and culture; environmental sciences, food sovereignty, theater and film, storytelling, fashion, arts and crafts, indigenous bookstore by Native authors and author book signings.
REIGNS’ Cultural Celebration will also feature symposium panels on the main stage at the Coleman Theater with noted moderators and panelists discussing such important topics as:
- The Rights of Nature
- “Indigeneity”
- Food Sovereignty
- Native American Food Banks
- Native Representation in films from–“Fort Apache” to “Reservation Dogs”
- Native American Ventriloquist
- Breakout panels in the Coleman Theater annex will feature Indigenous storytellers, Native American
- Short Films
- The empowerment and authenticity of Native Americans on the theatrical stage.
- Storytellers,
- Pottery makers
- Play Native American traditional games of Indian dice, and a Hand Game
- Fashion Show
There will be a class limited to twenty people in Shawl Making where the participants will show their work in a Fashion Show that evening. This year’s conference will focus on and celebrate the 90th birthday of the beloved late Dakota philosopher, Vine Deloria, Jr., and the 50th anniversary of the publication of God is Red.
This masterpiece has been the mainstay of lawyers, theologians and Native people for generations. Deloria’s other works include the classics Custer Died For Your Sins, Behind the Trail of Broken Treaties, the World We Used To Live In: Remembering the Powers of the Medicine Men and others.
