Missouri Court of Appeals judge now leads national court of appeals organization

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.  – Judge Mark D. Pfeiffer of the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, has been named president of the Council of Chief Judges of the State Courts of Appeal (CCJSCA).

His one-year term began Oct. 27 during the CCJSCA Annual Conference in Charleston, South Carolina.

Judge Pfeiffer, who succeeds Judge Glenn Acree from the Kentucky Court of Appeals, will serve CCJSCA alongside fellow officers:

    • President-Elect: Judge Frankie Moore, Nebraska Court of Appeals
    • Vice President: Chief Justice Mark V. Green, Massachusetts Appeals Court
    • Secretary-Treasurer: Chief Judge John Guidry, Louisiana Court of Appeal, First Circuit

Formed in 1980, CCJSCA is committed to providing consultation and education for leaders of the state intermediate appellate courts. The conference works toward improving the administration of justice by sharing ideas and best practices, learning about effective programs, and examining ways to promote efficiency and fiscal responsibility in appellate courts.

Judge Pfeiffer has served on the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, since 2009 and was the chief judge from 2016 to 2018. Before joining the bench, he worked in private practice for 17 years. He received his law degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law.

The Council of Chief Judges of the State Courts of Appeal is comprised chief judges, incoming chief judges and past chief judges from 39 states and provides consultation and education to improve the administration of justice in state intermediate appellate courts.
