Joplin High JAG chapter to celebrate new members

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Joplin High School chapter of Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) will host
an Initiation and Installation ceremony for new student members at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3.

It’s a reservation-only event.

The ceremony will celebrate new members of JAG, which is a career association for high school
students. JAG is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting young people who face
significant challenges, to help them reach economic and academic success. The program has
been available in Joplin Schools since 2018.

Joplin Schools JAG Specialist Janet Parker-Spain noted that JAG focuses on 37 employability
skills that include how to start a job, stay positive while on the job, how to quit a job if necessary,
use critical thinking skills, and communicate effectively. The program also helps students learn
how to start a business.

“The JAG Career Association works hard to find guest speakers, ways for us to do community
service, and visit businesses to see how they work in our community,” said Parker-Spain. “The
Initiation and Installation ceremony gives students a sense of belonging and shows their
commitment to the organization as they work to accomplish their goals.”|
