Cost of 4th of July cookout down slightly from last year, but still high
Hosting a 4th of July cookout will cost you 67 dollars and 73 cents this year, according to the Missouri Farm Bureau.
Janet Adkison is Public Affairs Director for the Bureau. She says 67-73 is slightly less than last year’s price tag, but still 14 percent higher than it was two years ago:
“That’s to host an Independence Day cookout with 10 of your family members or, of course, your closest friends…and this is based on the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual market basket survey. Now, they do this a couple times a year here around the Fourth of July and then another one they’ll do when Thanksgiving rolls around.”
So what do you get for 67 dollars and 73 cents?
Two pounds of hamburger meat, a pound of cheese, one package of hamburger buns, 2 pounds of chicken breasts, 3 pounds of pork chops, 2-and-a-half pounds of potato salad, a 32-ounce can of pork & beans, a 16-ounce bag of chips, one package of cookies, a half-gallon of ice cream, 2 pints of strawberries, and 2-and-a-half quarts of lemonade.
