Celebrations slated in southeast Kansas

If you’re looking for some things to do in and around the 4th of July holiday, you might try southeast Kansas.

Annual celebration dates vary by community. Enjoy fireworks over the lake, or a rodeo with a dance and fireworks.

The 2023 schedule includes the following:

Saturday, July 1 – Opolis 4th of July Picnic

Starts 5:30 p.m. – Maggie Grebe Memorial Park – 300 W 2nd St, Opolis, KS

Saturday, July 1 – Girard’s 1st of July Celebration

Starts 6 p.m. – Crawford County Fairground – 249 E KS 47, Girard, KS

Wutke Watermelon Feed, food trucks, music plus fireworks show.

Sunday, July 2 – Lake Blast Celebration

Starts 6 p.m. – Crawford State Park – 1 W Lake Rd, Farlington, KS

DJ Brown and the Bourbon County Revival is the featured band and plays from about 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Concessions available from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Fireworks start at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Monday, July 3 – Chatters/Baseball

Starts 5 p.m. – 2401 S Rouse, Pittsburg, KS

Chatters will grill burgers from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. (full kitchen ends at 9 p.m.). Firework display will be at approximately 9:15 p.m.

Also, this year, a fundraiser for the PSU Baseball team will be held. At 6 p.m. the Joplin Outlaws baseball team will host a special “home” game against Nevada at the Gene Bicknell Sports Complex on the Pittsburg State campus. 100% of the concessions will go towards PSU Baseball.

Monday, July 3 – Mulberry Independence Celebration

Starts 6 p.m. – Mulberry Ball Park – North Military Ave., Mulberry, KS

Monday, July 3 & Tuesday, July 4 – Hepler Ruritan Club Rodeo & Celebration

Hepler Ruritan Arena – 200 W Arlington St, Hepler, KS

Monday starts at 7 p.m. – 7 p.m. Mutton Bustin; 8 p.m. URA, MRCA and Open Rodeo; 10 p.m. Dance featuring live band, Barnstormers

Tuesday starts at 11 a.m. – 11 a.m. Parade; 12 p.m. Cake Walk & Auction; 12:30 p.m. Kids Games; 1:30 p.m. Hillbilly Games; 7 p.m. Mutton Bustin; 8 p.m. URA, MRCA and Open Rodeo; and, Fireworks to follow

Admission: $10 adults; and, $5 kids.

Tuesday, July 4 – Pittsburg’s 4th of July Festival

Starts 8 a.m. – Lincoln Park – 813 Memorial Drive, Pittsburg, KS

Activities include live performances, music, kid-friendly activities, amusement park rides, food vendors, Pickleball Open Tournament, and the fireworks grand finale.

Tuesday, July 4 – Cherokee’s 4th of July Celebration

Starts 5:30 p.m. – American Legion Post #35 – 109 S Vine St, Cherokee, KS

Food, games plus bounce houses, live music by The Ridge Runerzz Band from 6p-9p. Fireworks at dusk.

Saturday, July 8 – McCune’s 8th of July Bash

Football field, McCune, KS

A new event to 2023, this event includes an auto show, water activities, touch the truck, Apple Pie contest, and fireworks at approximately 9:30p.
