Emergency rule for drug shortage
Chemotherapy drugs are in short supply.
The U.S. is experiencing a shortage of cancer drugs and the Missouri Board of Pharmacy is moving to address that.
An emergency rule was made, which goes into effect July 6, 2023, that allows pharmacists to mix drugs to create a medication that could treat the cancer.
The shortage has forced hospitals to select which patients to treat, according to results from the Missouri Hospital Association.
The FDA’s drug shortage list contains more than a dozen chemotherapy drugs.
The American Cancer Society said that the shortage of certain cancer drugs has become a serious and life-threatening issue.
The rule remains in effect the rest of the year.
