Pittsburg’s YMCA drown victim identified

Pittsburg Police released the name of the 19-year-old boy who drowned in a local YMCA pool. Police issued the following press release:

On Tuesday morning, June 6, 2023, first responders were dispatched to the Pittsburg YMCA, located at 1100 N. Miles Ave., in reference to an unresponsive adult male being located in the pool

The adult male, who was identified as 19-year-old Caiden L. Barber, of Pittsburg, was transported to Ascension Via Christi’s emergency department by Crawford County EMS. Mr. Barber was later pronounced deceased at Ascension Via Christi

Caiden’s body has been sent to Kansas City for autopsy. The investigation into this incident is ongoing at this time.

Pittsburg Police were called to an apparent drowning death at the Pittsburg YMCA Tuesday morning. Read more from the official press release below:

On Tuesday morning, June 6, 2023, at approximately 7:50 AM, law enforcement officers from the Pittsburg Police Department, as well as first responders from the Pittsburg Fire Department and Crawford County EMS, were dispatched to the Pittsburg YMCA, located at 1100 N. Miles Ave., in Pittsburg, in reference to a report of an unresponsive adult male being located in the facility’s pool.

YMCA personnel had already begun resuscitation efforts when first responders arrived. The patient was transported to the emergency department at Ascension Via Christi Hospital for treatment. The patient was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

This incident is under investigation at this time. There are no apparent indications of foul play.

The identity of the decedent will be revealed after next of kin have been notified.
