Neosho to host two free concerts for Make Music Day

Neosho Arts Council is taking part in the international Make Music Day event on June 21, 2023. The organization is sponsoring two free public concerts and also sending musicians into the Neosho School District’s summer school programs.

The council is presenting two free community events with a Lunch and Listen concert at the Neosho National Fish Hatchery and AfternoonTunes taking place at the Neosho Newton County Library later the same day.

“We are inviting the public to bring their lunch and listen to live music on the grounds of the Neosho Fish Hatchery,” Sarah Serio, President of the Neosho Arts Council, said. Presenting live music with the beautiful waters and grounds of the hatchery was an easy decision according to the Council as both are shown to be stress relievers.

“The arts council and hatchery staff hope the public will enjoy taking a break from their day to relax and enjoy lunch with a concert in a natural setting,” Serio added.

The Buffalo Creek Incident will be performing at the hatchery’s pavilion starting at 11:30am. The group will be performing traditional mountain music during the come and go concert for all ages. Patrons will enjoy music from stringed instruments like the fiddle, dulcimer, and guitar that has its deep roots in the ballads of Ireland and the British Isles with added elements from across early America.

Later that day Ozark Sky will be performing a mix of folk, rock, and country at 3:00pm inside the community room of the Neosho Newton County Library. All ages are invited to enjoy this lively performance.

Neosho Arts Council is also sponsoring musicians to present live music for both the elementary school and the middle/junior high summer school programs.

“We are thrilled to be able to give an added bonus to this year’s summer school session and expose students to a live musical performance,” Serio said. “We hope this sparks an interest with students to attend concerts as they get older or even to take up an instrument.”

Make Music Day is a one-day event where free, live musical performances, opportunities to make music and other musical events take place around the world on the longest day of the year. Musical festivities in Neosho are part of a celebration of music making in over 1,000 cities globally.
