At 8:01 am Tuesday, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of West Maple for a domestic disturbance involving a firearm. The victim fled the scene and called police. Officers could not get the suspect to come out. IPD officers formed a perimeter with the assistance of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MGSO).

The MGSO Special Response Team and the Coffeyville Police Department’s Special Operations Team were both called to the scene. Agents from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation responded to assist as well. MGSO negotiators spoke with the suspect, and he surrendered peacefully at 10:47 am.

IPD investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence and recovered firearms believed to be involved in the disturbance.

Deputies arrested 32-year-old Zebulon Zacharia Williams, of Independence. Williams is being held in the Montgomery County Jail as he awaits charges. IPD is requesting charges of attempted murder and interference.

Sheriff Wade and Chief Harrison are grateful to the MGSO deputies and IPD officers that responded to the scene and wish to thank Coffeyville PD and the KBI for their assistance. Thanks to the support and cooperation of all agencies the standoff was resolved safely.
