Hawley a firm ‘no’ vote on debt ceiling deal
Missouri U-S Senator Josh Hawley says he’ll vote “no” on the debt ceiling agreement reached between Democratic President Joe Biden and Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
Hawley told Newstalk KZRG the reason why is because the deal doesn’t include higher tariffs on imports from China:
“That’s the bottom line for me is that we have lost 60,000 jobs in the state of Missouri, blue collar jobs to China, just in the last 20 years. We have a persistent structural massive trade deficit with China which represents industry lost, it represents jobs lost, and this doesn’t do anything to address that.”
Congress has until June 5th to raise the debt ceiling or the U-S could default on its debt and risk triggering a recession.
