Sports Betting Back on Missouri Legislature’s Agenda for 2023
Sports betting is back on the agenda of Missouri lawmakers as the new legislative session kicks off today.
The measure came close last year but died in the Missouri Senate on the final day of last year’s session.
Republican Representative Dan Houx of Warrensburg is sponsoring the House version of the bill again this year:
“You know, last year we came really close, came down the wire, and it came down to the amount of fees that casinos/sports teams would pay to be able to operate sports gambling, and where that money went. You know, by law the money made off of sports gambling has to go to education, but the fees could go to other places.”
This year’s Senate version, like last year’s, would legalize video lottery in Missouri along with sports betting.
The legislative session begins at 12-noon Wednesday and runs through May 12th.
