U.S. Attorney’s Office Collects $16 Million In Civil And Criminal Actions In FY22
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri collected just shy of $16 point 1 million in criminal and civil actions in Fiscal Year 2022.
Of this amount, $10 point 4 million was collected in criminal actions and $5 point 6 million was collected in civil actions.
In addition, the Missouri Financial Litigation Unit collected over $3 million from Anthony Swiantek, one of 20 defendants who admitted to participating in a telemarketing fraud that targeted elderly victims.
The U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, along with the D-O-J’s litigating divisions, are responsible for enforcing and collecting civil and criminal debts owed to the U.S. and criminal debts owed to federal crime victims.
The law requires defendants to pay restitution to victims to certain federal crimes who have suffered a physical injury or financial loss.
