Senior citizen dies in motorized “trike” accident

A senior citizen is dead following an accident on Route “O” about 2 miles south of Halltown near Springfield this morning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 72-year old Edward D. Griffin was riding a 2006 Honda Goldwing Trike.

The Patrol says the exact time of the accident is unknown but the trike — essentially a 3-wheeled motorcycle — traveled off the left side of the road, struck a ditch and overturned.

Griffin was not wearing a helmet.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence County Scott Lakin around 8:40 a.m.

It was southwest Missouri Troop D’s 77th fatality accident in 2022.
