Drugs, child endangerment, and erratic behavior led to the arrest of a Baxter Springs native
In the early hours Tuesday morning Parsons Police received a call from a woman saying she was going to be killed. That call led to a high speed chase and the arrest of 39 year old Amanda Frost of Baxter Springs for child endangerment, driving under the influence, and reckless driving.
The Parsons Police department issued the following release:
On August 2, 2022, at approximately 3:08 am Parsons Police Corporal Kyle Shields was dispatched to a 911 call with a woman saying that she was going to be killed. The caller did not give a location so Parsons Dispatchers pinged the cell phone location of the emergency call to find out that it was near 17th and Main Street.
When Corporal Shields arrived, he met with Amanda Frost, 39 of Baxter Springs, who made comments that did not make sense to the officer. Amanda had her 4-year-old child in the vehicle with her. Amanda stated that there were men on the Municipal building trying to kill her. She told officers that she and her child are ok to die but wanted to spend one more night together. Knowing that she was from the Baxter Springs area, Cpl. Shields contacted the local authorities for any history that would explain her behavior, mental health or drug induced. Officers were told that she had a history of narcotic use and was well known by authorities.
Corporal Shields asked Amanda to get out of the vehicle, but she ignored his orders and drove off fleeing the scene. Amanda drove down Main Street East to the 400 junction and then fled east down U.S. 400 toward Pittsburg Kansas. Corporal Shields pursued her at normal highway speeds to Pittsburg. Due to the questionable comments made by Amanda there was much cause for concern with the wellbeing of her child.
Officers from the Pittsburg Police Department, Labette County Sheriff’s Department, Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, and Crawford County Sheriff’s Department were involved in the pursuit. Once inside the city limits of Pittsburg, Officers from Pittsburg Police Department was able to get Spike Strips, tire deflation tools, deployed to end the pursuit. Once the vehicle was stopped Amanda refused to exit the vehicle and officers had to break a window to get her out of the vehicle. Once removed Amanda was taken into custody and transported to the Parsons Police Department.
Amanda faces the following charges: Felony Fleeing and Elude, Aggravated Child Endangerment, Reckless Driving, No Child Safety Seat, Driving Under the Influence (Drugs), and multiple driving violations. The report is being sent to the Labette County Attorney’s Office for official charging.
Police Chief Robert Spinks said, “it is situations like that this that unfold at alarming rates and are very fluid. It is a blessing that this individual was taken into custody, and nobody was injured. It is a great partnership with other agencies that make cases like this able to be resolved efficiently. I sincerely hope that the judicial branch of our government takes this opportunity to hold accountable the mother involved with endangering the life of her own child.”
