Joplin’s Downtown Sidewalk Sale troopers on despite heavy rain
This Saturday was the exciting Downtown Sidewalk Sale in Joplin. The Sidewalk sale has been a locally loved tradition going back more than 60 years.
Historically, during the Sidewalk sale businesses on Main street bring their merchandise to the outdoor walkways of beautiful downtown Joplin with some of their best sales! Unfortunately, this year’s sale day saw sudden and heavy rain falls forcing businesses to pivot.
While the streets were empty, businesses including Blue Moon Boutique, Pearl Bros Hardware, Blush, Sophie, and more held their sales indoors drawing in many interested shoppers despite the gloomy weather.
“We tried to wait the rain out… it wasn’t going to let up, but neither were we. Indoor or outdoor we were going to have our sale no matter what” one cashier at Pear Bros said.
Shop owners noted that because of weather conditions they saw less than expected sales with foot traffic unusually low for an event like this. Though, even with the hampered attendance shop owners were still thankful for all that were able to make it out and enjoy the local tradition that only a town like Joplin can offer.
