Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp Begins

The Kansas City Chiefs began their 2022-2023 season with training camp opening up on Wednesday at 9:15 AM. The Chiefs training camp takes place in St. Joseph at Missouri Western State University.

One of the main storylines surrounding the Chiefs this offseason is Tyreek Hill’s departure. Hill has been incredible as a Chief and now the they must replace his production. JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdez-Scantling, two of the Chiefs’ additions at the wide receiver position, are slated to be in charge of replacing his production. The two are certainly not replica’s of Hill’s style of play, but there presence on the field may diversify the Chiefs’ aerial attack.

The Chiefs’ blind side protector Orlando Brown Jr. will reportedly not be attending training camp until his contract situation has been resolved. Brown has not signed his franchise tag after hoping for a long term agreement. The team has brought in multiple offensive lineman to patch up the offensive line in case Brown’s absence carries on long term.

The 2022 rookie class has already made its way through rookie minicamp. Now it is time for the rookies to be out on the field with the veterans. Rookie Defensive End George Karlaftis, the second of the Chiefs’ two first-round selections, is expected to make an immediate impact. Karlaftis has had a good offseason and the organization hopes he carries this progress through training camp. Cornerback Will McDuffie, the Chiefs’ 21st overall selection, is also expected to battle for a starting spot on the defense. McDuffie was a great prospect from the University of Washington. The organization hopes they have found a solid lockdown corner for the foreseeable future.

The Chiefs are in the midst of a dynasty and will be contenders as long as they have Patrick Mahomes running the show. Despite this, last year showed he simply cannot do it on his own. The Chiefs will need these new additions to make some immediate impacts to win it all once again.
