Project Homeless Connect connects people with services
Up to 300 homeless living in Joplin area
On Friday, the Homeless Coalition of Jasper and Newton Counties sponsored “Project Homeless Connect” in downtown Joplin.
The goal of the event was to connect homeless people with services.
“It’s a good way to outreach to people who are experiencing homeless, whether they are living outside or in shelters,” says Tammy Walker of the Economic Security Corporation.
“Our main goal is to connect with people and hopefully engage them in services that they might not have or might not know about.”
Walker said the most recent “point in time” count revealed about 230 homeless individuals in the Joplin area, although that number could be as high as approximately 300.
