KZRG SPORTS: FREDDIE FREEMAN DRAMA

Freddie Freeman of the Los Angeles Dodgers has fired his agent on the last few days. Players changing representation happens fairly frequently, but not for the reasons Freeman had for changing his team.

Freeman, who played for the Atlanta Braves, is an Atlanta legend. He won an MVP and a World Series while playing for the Braves. He was the face of the franchise for the last decade and beloved by the whole city. Freeman is one of the most well-liked players in the MLB and had established himself as a Brave for life. Freeman made his return to Atlanta this last weekend where he was set to receive his World Series ring. Freeman got to speak to former teammates and other members of the organization for the first time since leaving Atlanta.

There was a lot of drama and rumors floating around the situation until the Braves signed All-Star first baseman Matt Olson. This indicated that despite the history between the two, Freeman and the Braves were headed for a divorce. Freeman eventually signed with the high rolling Los Angeles Dodgers for six years and $162 million dollars. When he made his return to Atlanta, the drama only got worse. Freeman was visibly upset all weekend. We all knew that it would be tough for him to return to his old home, but when the news broke it was even worse. His agent supposedly did not report the Braves final offer to Freeman. The two teams offers were apparently not that far apart. This is a huge issue given staying in Atlanta was Freddie’s main goal.

Freeman is currently self-represented due the recent drama. He appears to enjoy playing for the Dodgers, but it will always hurt him to not still be in Atlanta. Hopefully it all works out for Freeman as he is known foe being an overall great guy.
