Independence Police on the hunt for suspected murderer
Police Seek Suspect in Attempted Murder
The Independence Police Department (IPD) is seeking Brian Medsker for suspicion of attempted murder and other related charges. The charges stem from an incident on Laurel near 12th St. in Independence.
At about 12:22 pm on Thursday, IPD officers were dispatched to an injury accident with a car vs. cyclist in the 500 block of W. Laurel. Witnesses reported the suspect vehicle was leaving the scene and identified the driver, reporting a small child was with him. A different driver returned to the scene with the striking vehicle.
Officers at the scene located a 39-year-old male with serious injuries. Witnesses reported the suspect intentionally struck the cyclist. Officers documented evidence at the scene that indicated it was an intentional act and not a vehicle accident. Investigators have been searching for Medsker most of the day.
Brian Medsker, 39-year-old male from Independence, is suspected of attempted murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and aggravated endangerment of a child. Law enforcement throughout the region are on the lookout.
The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment of possible serious injuries. Police believe Medsker knows the victim and this was a targeted attack of opportunity, not a random act. IPD is not releasing any information on the victim.
IPD asks that if you know where Medsker is to call 911 or 620-332-1700 to notify police. Case #2022-00938
