Joplin Police Department and SWAT team pursue wanted suspect overnight into this morning

The JPD says to avoid the area of S Connor

UPDATE:

We previously reported that the Joplin Police Department and SWAT team were attempting to apprehend an invidual who had entered a residence in the 200 block of S Connor overnight Wednesday after fleeing from a JPD officer.

The JPD reported earlier this morning that the individual, identied as 33-year-old Joplin resident Chistopher Echols, had been taken into custody around 11 a.m.

He has several active warrants, including one for Murder out in Vermillion County, IL and Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Carrying a handgun without a license out of
Hendricks County, IL.

The Joplin Police Department may seek additional charges.

The Joplin Police department had their hands busy overnight Wednesday as they pursued a wanted subject.

Reports say that an officer observed a vehicle that was related to that subject.

The vehicle fled to a residence in the area of 200 S Connor.

Joplin SWAT was then called to the situation.

The wanted suspect is still believed to be inside.

The activity caused North Middle School to alter their drop off procedures for students.

The public is encouraged to avoid the area.
