Kansas kids contest winners announced in KDOT campaign

The categories for the contest were poster and video

Winners for two Kansas contests have been announced as part of the national safety campaign Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day.

There were two categories that kids could submit entries to – poster and video.

Both contests considered entries throughout the state of Kansas.

The winner of the poster category was Annika Mick of Manhattan, Emma Kuhlman of Topeka, and Raynee Eddy of Inman.

Each winner will receive a bicycle donated by the Kansas Trunpike Authority, in addition to a helmet donated by Safe Kids Kansas, according to a Kansas Department of Transportation news release.

The KDOT news release also states, “As statewide winners in their age categories, they will also receive a Kindle Fire tablet from the KTA, a $50 gift card from the Fuel True/Independent Energy and Convenience and movie passes from AAA Kansas. In addition to these prizes, the student’s school, class or booster club will receive $200.”

For the video category, a student group from St. John – Hudson Tigers USD 350 –  won first place. The winners in this contest can view here.

The KDOT news release states later on,

“They will receive first choice of a GoPro, a DJI Stabilizer and a DJI Drone, and the grand prize winner’s school, class or booster club will receive $500.

Two groups of students from Eudora Schools captured second and third place in the video contest. Each will receive one of the remaining prizes listed above. There was a total of 33 entries from teens across the state. To see the winning videos, click HERE.

Organizations that work together on this safety campaign include the Kansas Department of Transportation, Kansas Turnpike Authority, Kansas Highway Patrol, Kansas Traffic Safety Resource Office, AAA of Kansas, Kansas Contractors Association and the Federal Highway Administration – Kansas division.”
