Officials say Black student wrote racist graffiti at school
CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (AP) – Officials at a suburban St. Louis high school say racist graffiti found on bathroom walls that led to a mass student walkout last week was scrawled by a Black student.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the student admitted to administrators to writing the graffiti in multiple bathrooms at Parkway Central High School.
In a letter Tuesday, Superintendent Keith Marty said the student’s race “does not diminish the hurt it caused or the negative impact it has on our entire community.”
Hundreds of students at Parkway Central walked out of class in protest last Thursday, a day after the racial slurs were found in boys’ bathrooms in Parkway Central and, separately, in a bathroom at Parkway North High School.
