American Red Cross encourages public to form plan for dealing with disasters
The organization says you should Get A Kit, Make a Plan, and Be Informed
The American Red Cross wants the public to be prepared as the United States sees a variety of severe weather scenarios.
The organization encourages the public to get a kit, make a plan, and be informed.
An emergency kit should have a gallon of water per person, per day, non-perishable food, a flashlight, battery-powered radio, first aid kit, medications, supplies for infants or pets, a multi-purpose tool, personal hygiene items, copies of important papers, cell phone chargers, blankets, maps of the area and emergency contact information.
You should also have a plan in place for what to do in case you are separated from your family during an emergency and what to do if you have to evacuate.
Lastly, staying informed by knowing how local officials will share information during a disaster; this will benefit you and your family.
