Parsons sees drop in some crimes, increase in felony domestic violence assaults

Parsons, Kansas saw a drop in misdemeanor battery, burglary . motor vehicle theft reports and rapes in 2020.

But …. there was an increase in felony aggravateda Assaults.

Police Chief Robert Spinks calls domestic violence cases the city’s “dirty secret.”

He says almost 1/3 of Parson’s violent crime involved felony domestic violence assaults.

The Chief says Parsons had a lower crime rate in 2020 than surrounding cities of Independence, Pittsburg and Coffeyville.

The figures come from the 2020 Uniform Crime Report from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
