Joplin resident killed in accident; man from Carthage held in connection with multiple felonies
A man from Joplin is dead following a crash Saturday morning at East 7th Street (MO 66) and Duquesne Road in Joplin.
A second driver is under arrest and is being held at the Jasper County jail in connection multiple felony charges related to the accident.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 66-year-old Robert D. McDermid died in the crash that took place at 8:47 a.m. on Saturday.
The driver of a second car involved, 36-year-old Kenton C. Cowgill pf Carthage, was taken into custody at the scene. He was transported by EMS to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin suffering from moderate injuries.
The Highway Patrol says the crash occurred when a 2008 Lexus, operated by Cowgill failed to yield and hit a 2010 Toyota Prius operated by McDermid. McDermid was taken to Mercy Hospital in Joplin where he was pronounced dead at 9:38 a.m. on Saturday.
Cowgill is currently being held without bond at the Jasper County jail. Authorities say he will be charged with Felony DWI, Felony Resisting Arrested and Felony Delivery of a Controlled Substance.
A third vehicle, a Dodge Caravan driven by 71-year-old Stanley E. Ball of Springfield was also hit. Ball was uninjured but his vehicle suffered moderate damage.
