First-ever commencement held for KCU-Joplin medical school

The KCU-Joplin medical school campus observed graduation for its first-ever class of physicians, 131 in all, over the weekend.

Commencement for the class was held on Sunday at Leggett & Platt Athletic Center at Missouri Southern State University.

The Joplin campus rests within part of the temporary component hospital that Mercy Hospital built after Joplin’s St. John’s Regional Medical Center was damaged beyond repair by the 2011 Joplin tornado. That facility remained in use until the completion of the Mercy Hospital near I-44 and Main Street in 2015.

The component hospital began being used for medical school classes in 2017.

Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences is based in Kansas City, Missouri.

From here, the graduates move into their residency training.
