Frazier writes about his connection with Lee Harvey Oswald, JFK assassination

Buell Wesley Frazier was only 19 years old in 1963 when he met Lee Harvey Oswald on the job at the Texas Schoolbook Depository in Dallas. Within a few days, he began driving Oswald to Irving, Texas on Friday nights and back to Dallas on Monday mornings.

Oswald’s wife, who was pregnant with the couple’s second child, was living in Irving with a woman named Ruth Paine, only a short distance from Frazier’s home.

Oswald stayed in Irving on weekends. The rest of the week, he spent the night in a small rooming-house apartment in Dallas.

On Nov. 22, 1963, Oswald was accused of killing President John F. Kennedy. He was arrested for the alleged assassination and for the murder of Dallas Police Officer J.D. Tippit.

But Oswald was never to go to trial.

Less that two days after his arrest, he was shot to death by Dallas nightclub owner Jack Ruby in the basement of the Dallas Police Department.

Frazier, who has written a book about his life, says he personally liked Oswald. He says on the job, Oswald was intelligent, punctual and hard working.

He also says the accused assassin was an unlikely suspect who had a way with children:

“All the children in the neighborhood soon learned that Lee would ride home with me on Friday. My sister’s three small children used to go up the street to play with Lee and the other children in the neighborhood,” Frazier comments.

“They were all excited about Friday because ‘Mr. Lee,’ as they called him, was there and he used to play games with them under the big oak tree.”

The oak tree is still there in the yard of the former home of Ruth Paine  in Irving, which is now open to the public as a museum.

“I often say to myself, ‘Oh if that oak tree could only talk, all the things it could probably tell you,'” Frazier comments.

Frazier says he thinks Oswald was probably innocent. He is also critical of the report written by the Warren Commission in the months following the assassination.

Frazier’s book, the first he has written, is titled Steering Truth: My Eternal Connection with JFK and Lee Harvey Oswald.

The book is available at Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble and in other bookstores and online platforms.
