University suspends cheer team over hazing allegations
EDMOND, Okla. (AP) – The University of Central Oklahoma has suspended its cheer team for the rest of the school year amid reports of hazing on the squad.
In a statement Saturday, University President Patti Neuhold-Ravikumar also said the squad wouldn’t participate in any national competition for two years.
Neuhold-Ravikumar wouldn’t reveal the nature of the hazing, citing student privacy laws. +
She said individual team members who participated in the hazing might face removal from the university’s squad and suspension.
Those cleared would undergo a membership review and may be allowed to try out for next year’s team.
