Chase on turnpike after Oklahoma Highway Patrol car is stolen
Troopers from Oklahoma, Missouri suffer non-life-threatening injuries . . . .
There was a high-speed chase on the Will Rogers Turnpike Saturday evening after an Oklahoma Highway Patrol car was stolen.
It started just before 5:30 p.m. when an OHP trooper began pursuing a black Dodge Charger with a paper tag on the Will Rogers Turnpike eastbound between Vinita and Afton.
The suspect vehicle struck stop sticks that had been set up near the Miami exit gate. The suspect’s tire deflated and he exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Troopers pursued but amid the hubbub, the suspect stole an OHP unit and continued eastbound on the turnpike.
The suspect crossed over into Missouri, hitting a Missouri Highway Patrol unit. The trooper, 52-year-old Tommy R. Morris of Springfield, received non-life-threatening injuries according to the Patrol’s Springfield office.
The suspect eventually ran over stop sticks set up by Missouri Highway Patrol. He was then taken into custody.
It was later determined that an Oklahoma State Patrol trooper had also been accidentally struck by a Missouri Highway Patrol unit. He is reported to have suffered mild to moderate injuries and was treated and released at a hospital.
The suspect’s name has not yet been released, pending the filing of charges.
