Joplin father is sentenced to seven years for abuse of baby.
Seven years is the prison sentence for a 20-year-old Joplin father after he inflicted numerous injuries on his baby daughter.
The sentence was given by Circuit Judge Dean Dankelson to Jacob A. Collins in Jasper County Circuit Court on Monday.
Previously, Collins had pleaded guilty on October 5th to a Class D felony count of child abuse.
When Collins’ baby was admitted to a Joplin hospital back in February, she already had a fractured skull, broken right arm, brain bleed, and extensive bruising on both her arms.
Published sources say, ” The defendant told a Joplin police investigator that he could not get his daughter to stop crying while tending to her while her mother was at work. He purportedly told the detective that he became frustrated and began bouncing her in his arms in a forceful manner without supporting her head.”
“He told the detective that picking her up by her arms without supporting her head was normal for him and the girl’s mother. He also acknowledged having grabbed her quickly by her arm as she was about to fall out of a swing on Feb. 17 and suggested that may have been how she suffered the broken arm.”
Further inspection of the family’s home found animal feces, broken glass on the floor, soiled diapers, and bags of trash ripped open.
