A man has been charged by the St. Louis prosecutor’s office in the death of a 5-year-old boy.

A man has been charged with child abuse resulting in the death of a child by the St. Louis prosecutor’s office after a 5-year-old boy died on Wednesday.

24-year-old Yoshuah Dallas was also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

Dallas had taken the boy, who was unresponsive, to Children’s Hospital where the child later died.

Autopsy reports say the boy had suffered blunt force trauma to his abdomen resulting in a lacerated liver and a broken rib. The child also had bruising around his mouth.

Authorities say Dallas admitted to being the sole caretaker for the boy the last day before he died.
