Be wary of unemployment scams coming from Kansas.
If you received a notice recently saying that someone has filed for unemployment benefits on your behalf, you’re not alone.
Several area residents are reporting that they’ve received notices from the Kansas Department of Labor saying that someone has filed for unemployment benefit’s in their name.
Cherokee County Sherriff David Groves says, “As with most scams, these thieves attempt to get peoples personal information by posing as government or bank official on the phone or through email, or they may gather the needed information from data breaches from a credit card or similar companies.”
The Kansas Department of Labor recently announced that they are doubling the size of their fraud and special investigation unit due to an increase in fraudulent unemployment claims across the country.
