Parson Waives Late Fees For Conceal Carry Renewals
Governor Parson has signed an executive order suspending late penalties for concealed carry license renewals, which waives the requirement that sheriffs enforce the penalties.
“Many people are worried they’ll be assessed a late penalty if they don’t renew their concealed carry license before it expires, which would require them to go to their local sheriff’s office. These people should not be penalized for staying home like they’ve been asked to do. This executive order not only promotes public health and social distancing, but also frees up local law enforcement offices from administrative tasks.”
House Minority Leader Crystal Quade says Parson thinking this is a priority is beyond disappointing and gives further ammunition to critics who say he is not doing what’s needed to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Open carry and concealed carry are legal in Missouri for anyone 19 years or older who can legally possess a firearm, with or without a Concealed Carry Permit (CCP). However, local authorities can restrict concealed carry in any building owned, leased or controlled by the county or municipality and may require a CCP for open carry. It remains illegal, however, for domestic violence offenders, incompetent persons and felons to carry a firearm.
