Keep Porch Pirates At Bay

Don’t be an easy target for the dreaded porch pirate. They’re those criminals who troll your neighborhood looking for unattended packages left at your front door.

Joplin Police Captain Nick Jimenez has some great advice to keep you from being their next victim.

“Have them hold them at the center that they’re being shipped through. Another option is having them delivered to your workplace if your employer allows that. Or have it be delivered at a time you know you’re going to be home.”

Another option is requiring a signature for delivery. You can also have your packages delivered to a trusted neighbor who’s home, or have your items shipped to the store for pick-up instead of your home address.

If you have to leave those packages on your porch, think about a home security system that notifies you when motion is detected, that could prove useful if something does get stolen.

Jimenez tells News Talk KZRG while they have not had many reports of porch pirates this holiday season, he does expect those numbers to increase as we get closer to Christmas.
