Joplin man caught hiding gun under dumpster sentenced to 7 years in prison

A Joplin man accused of opening fire in downtown Joplin last year will spend seven years in federal prison on a gun charge.
23-year-old Andrew Reed was sentenced after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. He will also serve three years of supervised release.
The case stems from a shooting shortly after 2 a.m. on February 15, 2025, near the club at 5th and Joplin.
Joplin police said at the time that officers found numerous shell casings and discovered gunfire had damaged at least two vehicles and two buildings.
No victims were found at the scene.
Police later identified Reed as the suspect and obtained a warrant accusing him of unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, and first-degree property damage. He was later taken into custody.
Federal prosecutors say surveillance video from a nearby business showed Reed hiding a firearm beneath a dumpster. The gun had a loaded 30-round extended magazine.
Reed was prohibited from possessing a firearm because of previous felony convictions in Kansas for battery against law enforcement and interference with law enforcement operations.
