An update to a story we brought you this week:
Two Joplin residents are facing felony drug trafficking charges after police say a SWAT raid uncovered roughly 23 grams of suspected fentanyl — an amount equivalent by weight to about 11,500 potentially deadly doses.
The Drug Enforcement Administration says just 2 milligrams of fentanyl can be a potentially lethal dose.
Sheridan Lea Hailey and Jared Scott Prier were arrested after Joplin police served a narcotics search warrant Wednesday at a home at 1302 S. Wisconsin Ave.
According to probable-cause statements, investigators found about 19 grams of powder that tested positive for fentanyl inside the home, along with scales, bags, syringes and firearms.
Police said another four grams of suspected fentanyl were found concealed in Hailey’s clothing while she was being booked into jail.
Hailey and Prier both face second-degree drug trafficking charges along with additional weapons and drug-related charges.
Both are being held on $100,000 cash-or-surety bonds.
