Missouri Southern State University professor Dr. Alla Barry has been identified as the woman killed after being struck by a boat while swimming in northwest Arkansas.
The accident happened Friday in the White River arm of Beaver Lake, north of War Eagle Marina.
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is investigating. Authorities have not released additional details about what led to the collision.
Missouri Southern announced Barry’s death Saturday, describing her as a beloved biology professor who had taught, mentored, and inspired countless students.
Barry joined MSSU in 2010 and later became a full-time member of the Biology Department.
A physician by training, she became closely involved with the university’s anatomy program and taught students preparing for careers in medicine and other health professions.
