Four arrested after Grand Falls fight ends with gunshots

Four people are jailed on felony charges after a social media meetup allegedly turned into a planned confrontation and shooting at Grand Falls in Joplin.

More details have been released following the shooting early Wednesday.

Savannah Warner, 19, of Webb City; Carter Montez, 19, of Joplin; Alysa Richards, 18, of Mt. Vernon; and Kaidence Wise, 19, of Lamar each face assault, kidnapping and two weapons charges.

Court records say Warner met Devin Madison, 23, of Pittsburg, Kansas, through Instagram and Snapchat. Warner allegedly told Madison she was 16, although she was 19. Madison told investigators he believed she was 18.

Warner agreed to meet Madison at Grand Falls after the park closed. The others accompanied her, and two people allegedly hid behind trees.

The group reportedly agreed that “Waffle House” would be a signal for those hiding to come out. When the phrase was used, Madison was confronted about meeting someone he believed was a minor.

Madison reportedly tried to leave but was blocked. A fight followed, and police said Montez pulled out a gun. Madison told investigators he grabbed the barrel before shots were fired.

Madison suffered three gunshot wounds to his left leg — two in the thigh and one near his ankle. He was taken to Freeman Hospital in stable condition.

Police recovered a .40-caliber Glock and a 9mm handgun. Court records say the Glock was found in a purse with a wallet containing a bank card bearing Montez’s name.

All four are being held in the Newton County Jail. Missouri law allows prosecutors to charge alleged accomplices for crimes they knowingly helped plan or carry out.

The allegations have not been proven in court.
