Holding the Line: Joplin property owners won’t see a rate increase this year
These rates apply strictly to real estate.
What do you think?

Joplin homeowners can breathe a small sigh of relief heading into tax season: city and library property tax bills will hold steady. With local officials locking in the combined levy at an unchanged 40.92 cents per $100 of assessed valuation, residents won’t see a rate hike this year to fund municipal services and public library operations.
The finalized rate maintains funding for core municipal infrastructure, public services, and the Joplin Public Library District without increasing the financial burden on local real estate owners.
Tax Rate Breakdown
City Tax Levy: 17.10 cents ($0.1710) per $100 of assessed valuation
Joplin Public Library District Levy: 23.82 cents ($0.2382) per $100 of assessed valuation
Total Combined Levy: 40.92 cents ($0.4092) per $100 of assessed valuation
What It Means for Homeowners
Under Missouri tax guidelines, residential real estate is assessed at 19% of its true market value. Because the rate remains unchanged, an owner of a residential property assessed at $100,000 will continue to pay a combined annual total of $77.75.
That bill splits directly between the two taxing entities:
City of Joplin Portion: $33.15
Library District Portion: $44.60
Neither the City of Joplin nor the Joplin Public Library District levies a tax on personal property, meaning these rates apply strictly to real estate.
