A routine proactive patrol turned into a high-speed chase through the streets of Miami, Oklahoma on Saturday evening, ultimately leading to the crash and arrest of an out-of-state suspect driving a stolen vehicle.

According to the Miami Police Department, an alert officer initially attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle spotted traveling at a high rate of speed along North Main Street. Rather than pulling over, the driver accelerated, triggering a pursuit northbound through the city.

Police say the suspect recklessly wove through traffic, blew past multiple traffic signals, and at one point drove directly into oncoming traffic lanes, posing a severe threat to evening motorists.

The chase came to an end in North Miami when the driver lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a light pole. Following the impact, the driver jumped out of the wrecked car and attempted to escape on foot. Officers quickly swarmed the area, located the suspect a short time later, and took him into custody without further incident.

Law enforcement identified the suspect as 37-year-old Bryant Anthony Haynes of Lockhart, Oklahoma
