One unlucky volunteer will take a pie to the face for Solace House
What do you think?
One local participant will soon take a pie to the face, but the real winner will be a Joplin organization helping families through some of their most difficult days.
Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery and Crematory is hosting a friendly fundraising competition benefiting Solace House. Community members can donate in support of their favorite participant, and the person who receives the fewest donations will be pied.
Alyssa Tallman of Ozark Memorial Park told Newstalk KZRG that the fundraiser is deeply personal. Her grandmother stayed at Solace House during her final days after it became difficult for her family to provide the care she needed at home.
Tallman said Solace House gave the family a comfortable place to gather, spend time together and say goodbye. Volunteers also provided food and helped care for the family throughout the experience.
Solace House provides a home-like setting for people nearing the end of life. Guests must be referred by a hospice provider, and services are provided at no cost to families, although a waiting list may apply.
Tallman said donations from the fundraiser will help Solace House cover expenses such as housing costs, utilities and food for visiting families.
Donations may be made with cash or a check payable to Solace House at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery and Crematory.
