Vandals cause more than $40k in damage at Newton County Fairgrounds

Officials with the Newton County Fairgrounds are asking for the public’s help after vandals caused more than $40,000 in damage to the property overnight.
In a social media post Monday, fairgrounds officials said they are seeking any information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible.
Photos shared by the fairgrounds show extensive damage around the property, including electrical equipment, wiring and other infrastructure.
“This is one of the largest community events, put on solely by volunteers and to see it vandalized and cost over $40,000 to repair the damages is so disheartening,” fairgrounds officials wrote.
Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity or has information about the vandalism is urged to come forward.
Sheriff Matt Stewart says report it to your local law enforcement.
