Thomas Ross narrowly defeated Louise Curchin Secker in Tuesday’s Republican primary for Missouri House District 161.
Ross received 1,586 votes, or 50.49%, while Secker received 1,555 votes, or 49.51%. Just 31 votes separated the two candidates out of 3,141 cast, according to unofficial results.
Ross advances to the November general election, where he will face Democrat Aaron Joseph Metzger.
The candidates are seeking to replace Republican state Rep. Lane Roberts.
Ross said this after his win:
"Thank you, District 161!
It truly takes a village, and tonight our community came together to let the voices of the people be heard.
I am deeply honored and humbled to have earned the Republican nomination for Missouri State Representative in District 161.
This campaign was never about one person. It was about neighbors, families, volunteers, supporters, and every voter who believed in our vision for stronger conservative leadership. Whether you knocked doors, made calls, shared a post, put up a sign, prayed for us, or simply took the time to vote—thank you. This victory belongs to all of us.
I also want to thank my wife, family, and everyone who stood beside me throughout this journey. Your encouragement and sacrifices made this possible.
Tonight we celebrate, but tomorrow we get back to work. I look forward to earning the trust of even more voters as we head toward November and continuing to fight for lower taxes, stronger families, safer communities, quality education, and responsible government.
Thank you again for your faith, your support, and your vote. I am truly grateful, and I will work every day to be a representative you can be proud of.
God bless."
