Congressman Derek Schmidt Files for Re-Election, Announces Campaign for Second Term Representing Kansas’ Second District
What do you think?

(Topeka, Kan.) – Congressman Derek Schmidt today officially filed for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives, seeking a second term representing Kansas’ Second Congressional District after delivering significant results for Kansas families, farmers, and small businesses during his first term in Congress.
Since taking office, Schmidt has focused on advancing commonsense, America First policies aimed at strengthening the economy, securing the border, restoring fiscal discipline, and delivering real results for Kansans. President Donald J. Trump has already endorsed Schmidt for re-election.
“In my first term, we’ve worked hard to deliver meaningful results for Kansas — lowering taxes, supporting our farmers and small businesses, strengthening border security, and standing tall for responsible government,” Schmidt said. “There’s more work to do to keep our economy strong, protect our communities, and ensure Kansas values are represented in Washington. I’m running for re-election to keep delivering for the people of the Second District.”
Delivering Results for Kansans
During his first term, Congressman Schmidt helped advance policies that:
Prevented major tax increases on Kansas families and small businesses and secured historic tax relief for working families and seniors
Strengthened agricultural programs and protected family farms through continued tax and crop insurance support and restricting foreign ownership of farmland
Supported small businesses by extending key tax deductions benefiting tens of thousands of Kansas employers
Advanced fiscal reforms projected to slow federal spending by more than $1 trillion over ten years
Funded significant border security measures and increased enforcement personnel to combat illegal immigration
Fought for the needs of Kansas military installations and the surrounding communities
Schmidt’s office has also delivered direct results for constituents across the district, including:
23 bills signed into law
$222 million secured to support Kansas rural health access and initiatives
More than $6.7 million returned directly to Kansas constituents
640+ constituent casework requests resolved
$20 million secured for local community projects including water infrastructure, public safety, healthcare, and education
A Record of Service to Kansas
Before being elected to Congress, Schmidt served Kansas for more than a decade as the state’s Attorney General, where he earned a reputation as a principled conservative focused on public safety, consumer protection, and defending constitutional freedoms.
A lifelong Kansan, Schmidt is the fifth generation of his family to make Independence home. He is married to Jennifer, and they have two daughters.
